Job Overview:
We are looking for a Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. This role is perfect for someone at the start of their culinary career who wants to learn and grow in a supportive environment. As a Commis Chef, you will assist senior chefs with daily food preparation, maintain kitchen cleanliness and organisation, and help ensure smooth service. The ideal candidate is hardworking, eager to learn, and has a good eye for detail in order to uphold the standards of a fine dining kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of dishes in accordance with restaurant standards.
- Ensure all ingredients are fresh and properly stored; perform mise en place efficiently.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene in compliance with HACCP and local health regulations.
- Work closely with the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef to learn and grow culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
- Uphold portion and waste control guidelines to minimize cost and maintain quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Assist in receiving and checking deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Support smooth kitchen operations during service and prep time.
- Follow instructions and recipes precisely and consistently.
- Participate in kitchen cleaning schedules, including deep-cleaning tasks.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a fine dining or luxury hotel environment.
- Culinary certification or diploma from a recognized institution is preferred.
- Basic understanding of Western or Asian fine dining cuisine.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and adapt to fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work well under pressure and maintain composure during busy service.
- High attention to detail and commitment to food safety standards.
- Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.
