About the Role:
The Sous Chef is a vital member of the kitchen leadership team, working closely with the Head Chef to deliver outstanding cuisine and ensure smooth daily kitchen operations. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious chef to grow within a professional kitchen environment, develop leadership skills, and contribute to menu innovation.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, passionate about culinary excellence, and capable of leading a team during service while maintaining exceptional food quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and maintaining high culinary standards.
- Lead kitchen service during busy periods while ensuring efficiency, organization, and consistency.
- Supervise, guide, and motivate kitchen staff to ensure strong teamwork and productivity.
- Assist in creating and refining seasonal menus, daily specials, and new dish concepts.
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes and plating standards.
- Monitor food preparation and cooking processes to ensure quality and consistency.
- Conduct regular quality checks on ingredients and finished dishes before service.
- Ensure proper portion control and maintain consistent food presentation standards.
- Assist with ordering ingredients and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure proper storage, labeling, and stock rotation (FIFO).
- Support food cost management by reducing waste and improving kitchen efficiency.
- Ensure kitchen stations are fully prepared, organized, and stocked prior to service.
- Train, mentor, and support junior chefs to enhance their culinary skills and kitchen knowledge.
- Assist in scheduling kitchen staff and ensuring appropriate staffing levels for service.
- Maintain strict compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly used, cleaned, and maintained.
- Participate in menu tastings, culinary brainstorming sessions, and team briefings.
- Assist with special events, private dining functions, and promotional menu launches.
- Address operational challenges quickly during service to maintain smooth kitchen flow.
- Step in to lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen environment at all times.
- Collaborate with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service and excellent guest experiences.
- Contribute creative ideas to improve menu offerings and enhance the restaurant’s culinary identity.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie in a reputable restaurant or hospitality establishment.
- Strong understanding of modern cooking techniques and professional kitchen operations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide and develop kitchen team members.
- Excellent knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene standards.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.
- Passion for culinary creativity, innovation, and high-quality ingredients.
- Culinary diploma or professional culinary training preferred.
